3 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert
Cross the High Atlas, walk through Aït Ben Haddou's kasbah, descend the Dades Valley and sleep two nights under the stars at Erg Chebbi.
Eight kid-friendly days — camels and dunes, film-set kasbahs and a relaxed, flexible pace for all ages.
Our Morocco family tour is a private, flexible eight-day adventure built around what children actually love — camel rides and sandboarding in the Sahara, kasbahs straight out of a film set, gentle walks in a dramatic gorge, and a pool to jump into at the end of a driving day. The pace is relaxed and fully adjustable, with your own driver-guide and vehicle so you can stop when little ones need to, and never march to a group's timetable.
It works brilliantly for families with young kids, teenagers and multi-generational trips with grandparents alike. We choose family-friendly riads and hotels (many with pools), keep the drives sensible, and weave in hands-on moments — a cooking class, a Berber home visit, stargazing in the desert. Everything is tailor-made, and you approve every hotel before paying any deposit.
Private local Berber & Arab guides who know every kasbah, dune and shortcut.
Reserve your dates now and pay nothing until your itinerary is approved.
Every stop, hotel and pace is built around you — never a fixed coach group.
Reachable on WhatsApp before and during your trip, day or night.
Your driver-guide meets you at Marrakech airport and transfers you to a family-friendly riad or hotel with a pool, in or near the medina, with time to settle in and let everyone recover from the flight. Depending on your arrival, the afternoon is free for a swim and a gentle first wander. In the evening we suggest an easy stroll to Jemaa el-Fna, the UNESCO-listed square — kids love the storytellers, musicians, orange-juice stalls and (from a friendly distance) the snake charmers. Your guide can point you to a rooftop terrace for dinner overlooking the square. A calm, flexible start with nothing that has to happen. (no driving — arrival day)
A relaxed, private day exploring Marrakech at a child's pace. We keep the walking manageable and fun: a horse-drawn calèche ride around the ramparts, the tranquil Majorelle Garden and Menara pool, the painted courtyards of the Bahia Palace, and a gentle wander through the souks with your guide helping the kids haggle for a souvenir. We build in breaks for fresh juice and mint tea, and can arrange a fun, hands-on Moroccan cooking class the family makes (and eats) together. The afternoon can stay free for the pool if little ones need it. The evening is yours, with dinner we're happy to book. (city day — walking, gentle pace)
A spectacular drive into the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), with viewpoints, Berber villages and plenty of photo stops to break up the road. Mid-morning we reach Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed earthen city where Gladiator, Game of Thrones and countless films were shot — a real-life sandcastle that kids adore climbing through with a local guide. After lunch we visit Ouarzazate and, if the family fancies it, the Atlas Film Studios, before checking into a hotel (often with a pool) for the night. A day of big scenery and film-set magic. (approx. 4–5 hrs driving, spread with stops)
We follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs east, stopping to walk the flat, easy floor of the magnificent Todra Gorge between sheer 300-metre walls — a wow moment that's genuinely stroller- and grandparent-friendly. Continuing through palm oases, we reach the edge of the Sahara at Merzouga in the late afternoon. Everyone climbs aboard camels for a gentle trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset (little ones can share a saddle or ride with a guide), arriving at a comfortable family desert camp. Dinner is a tagine around the fire, with drumming, dune-running and more stars than the kids have ever seen. (approx. 5 hrs driving)
Wake for a magical sunrise over the dunes — then let the kids loose for sandboarding and rolling down the sand while the grown-ups take photos, before riding the camels back to camp for breakfast. Today we travel west along the Kasbah trail to the rose-coloured Dades Valley, with its surreal 'monkey-finger' rock formations and famous switchback road (a hit with older kids). We check into a valley kasbah hotel — many with a pool and a terrace over the palm groves — with the afternoon free to relax after the desert. A gentler day after the big adventure. (approx. 5 hrs driving, with stops)
A scenic drive back toward Marrakech, breaking up the road with things to see: the palm oasis and old kasbahs of Skoura, the fragrant Rose Valley, and viewpoints as we recross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka, with a mountain-café stop. We reach Marrakech by evening and check back into a family riad or hotel with a pool. The pace and stops are entirely flexible — your guide reads the mood of the car and adjusts, with breaks whenever the kids need to stretch, snack or nap. The evening is free to relax. (approx. 6 hrs driving, spread with stops)
A full free day in and around Marrakech, shaped to your family. Many families spend the morning by the pool and the afternoon on something hands-on — a cooking class, a pottery or lantern-making workshop, or more time in the souks. If everyone's up for a little adventure, we can arrange an easy day trip to the Ourika Valley in the Atlas foothills, with a short waterfall walk and lunch by the river, or the Agafay stone desert for a camel ride and sunset close to the city. Your guide sets it all up, or leaves the day entirely open — whatever suits your crew. (optional day trip or free day)
After breakfast, and depending on your flight, there may be time for a last swim or a final wander through the souks for souvenirs before we transfer you to Marrakech airport. If you have a late flight we can arrange a late checkout or a few relaxed extra hours in the city. Your guide makes sure the whole family leaves happy, unhurried and on time, at the end of an adventure that mixed camels and dunes, film-set castles and gentle gorge walks with plenty of pool time. Longer family trips — adding the coast at Essaouira or more of the north — are easily arranged. (transfer to the airport)

Morocco is one of the most rewarding places to travel with children: it's a short flight from Europe, endlessly colourful and hands-on, and packed with the kind of real-life adventure that makes kids look up from their screens — riding a camel over a dune, exploring a mud-brick castle that starred in their favourite film, chasing the echo in a gorge, or watching the Milky Way appear over a desert camp. It's exotic enough to feel like a genuine expedition, yet easy and safe to organise privately.
Because this trip is entirely private, it flexes completely to your family. There are no group coaches, no rigid timetable and no shopping-stop scripts — just your own vehicle and driver-guide, so you can start late after a lie-in, stop for an unplanned snack or photo, and shorten or lengthen any day to match nap times, teenagers or grandparents. It's the difference between a holiday that exhausts a family and one that delights it.
The Sahara is the undisputed highlight. Riding camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset, sleeping in a desert camp, sandboarding and rolling down the sand at sunrise, and lying back to count shooting stars are the moments children remember for years. Our family camp is comfortable and safe, the camel trek is gentle and short, and younger children can share a saddle or ride with a guide holding the reins.
Aït Ben Haddou is the other big hit — a giant real-life sandcastle where Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed, made for climbing and exploring with a guide who brings the stories to life. Add the dramatic Todra Gorge (an easy, flat walk with towering walls), the Atlas Film Studios and the theatre of Jemaa el-Fna, and every day has a clear 'wow' that keeps kids engaged rather than bored in the back of a car.
The single most important thing on a family trip is pace, and a private tour lets us get it right. We keep the daily drives sensible and break them up with stops, build in pool afternoons and free time, and let your guide read the mood of the car — pausing for snacks, photos, toilet stops or a nap whenever it's needed. Nothing is forced; if a day needs to be shorter or slower, it simply is.
We also tailor the content to your children's ages. Younger kids get camels, gardens, sandboarding and pool time; older kids and teenagers get film sets, gorge walks, sandboarding and a bit more history; grandparents get comfortable vehicles, gentle walking options and a manageable rhythm. Tell us your family and we'll shape each day so everyone — not just the adults — has a trip they love.
We choose accommodation with families in mind: riads and hotels with pools, family rooms or connecting rooms, and gardens or courtyards where kids can safely run around. In the desert, the camp is comfortable and welcoming, with real beds, proper toilets and a campfire dinner. You see and approve every property before paying, so there are no surprises.
Moroccan food is very child-friendly — bread, couscous, mild tagines, grilled chicken, chips, fresh fruit and endless fresh orange juice — and we're always happy to find familiar options too. Travelling privately with a local guide also makes everything smoother and safer: they handle the navigation, the language, bottled water and any wobble along the way, so parents can relax and actually enjoy the trip.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are ideal for families: warm but comfortable in Marrakech and the desert, and perfect for the outdoor, camel-and-kasbah heart of the trip. These seasons line up well with Easter and October half-term breaks, which is when many families travel — we recommend booking ahead for those weeks.
Summer coincides with the long school holidays, and it works too, though inland heat means we start desert days early, keep midday for the pool, and lean on air-conditioned vehicles and shaded stops. Winter brings clear, bright days, thin crowds and cold but magical desert nights (a warm layer sorts it) — great for a Christmas or February-break adventure. Whatever the season, we adjust the pace and packing advice to keep everyone comfortable.
This eight-day route is a starting framework, not a fixed package. Families with very young children sometimes shorten it or swap a driving day for more pool time; families with teenagers often add the coast at Essaouira (great for beginner surfing and kitesurfing), a night in the blue city of Chefchaouen, or a walk in the Atlas from Imlil. We match every hotel and activity to your children's ages and your budget.
Because it's fully private, the whole trip bends to you: child seats, a slower rhythm, extra desert nights, or a more active version for adventurous older kids. Give us your dates, your children's ages and what they're into, and we'll design the exact family adventure around you — with no deposit due until you're happy with every detail.
