Marrakech day trips at a glance

A day trip is the easiest way to see beyond Marrakech when your schedule is tight. Every trip below is private — your own driver-guide and air-conditioned vehicle — leaving after breakfast and back by evening. Most sit within two to three hours of the city, so you spend the day at the site, not in traffic.

Choosing the right day trip

  • For mountains and water: the Ourika Valley and the Ouzoud Waterfalls, both green half-day escapes into the Atlas foothills.
  • For desert scenery: the Agafay stone desert, 40 minutes out, when the Sahara is too far for your dates.
  • For kasbahs and film sets: Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO earthen city over the Tizi n'Tichka pass.
  • For the coast: the walled port of Essaouira, with argan cooperatives on the way.
  • For the blue city: Chefchaouen, best as an overnight rather than a rushed day.

If you would rather reach the real dunes, see our Merzouga and the Sahara guide and the multi-day Morocco tours instead — the Sahara needs three days from Marrakech, not one.

Frequently asked questions

Are the day trips private?

Yes — every day trip is 100% private, with your own driver-guide and vehicle. There is no shared coach, and the pace is yours.

Can you visit the Sahara on a day trip from Marrakech?

Not the real dunes — Merzouga is about 560 km away and needs at least three days. Agafay is a stone desert 40 minutes out and is the honest day-trip alternative for desert scenery.

What time do day trips start and finish?

Most leave your riad after breakfast and return in the early evening. We adjust pickup times to your plans and the season — see the best time to visit guide for daylight and heat.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is usually at your own cost so you can choose where to eat, unless a specific trip states otherwise. Each day-trip page lists exactly what is included.
